Indonesia Submits Second Best Offer in Tariff Negotiations with the U.S.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, announced that Indonesia has submitted a second best offer in its ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States. The offer includes several concessions in response to U.S. requests, covering tariffs, non-tariff barriers, and commercial aspects.

Airlangga noted that the U.S. side—including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent—has appreciated Indonesia’s gesture. However, he emphasized that the final decision will depend on internal coordination among U.S. government agencies such as the USTR and the Department of Commerce.

Trade Ministry Targets 7% Export Growth in 2025, Rising to 9% by 2029

The Ministry of Trade is aiming for a 7% export growth in 2025, with a target of reaching 9% by 2029, as part of Indonesia’s broader strategy to drive national economic growth to 8%. This initiative is supported by the optimization of 19 free trade agreements (FTAs) signed with 30 countries, including the Indonesia–European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), to expand market access and reduce export tariffs to zero percent.

The Ministry is focusing on three key programs:

  1. Safeguarding the domestic market,
  2. Expanding export markets, and
  3. Enhancing export capacity of MSMEs.

President Prabowo Inaugurates 55 Renewable Energy Projects Across 15 Provinces

President Prabowo Subianto has officially launched the operation and construction of 55 renewable energy power plant projects spread across 15 provinces. These projects include geothermal (PLTP) and solar (PLTS) power plants, with a total clean energy capacity of 379.7 MW and a combined investment value of approximately IDR 25 trillion.

A key highlight is the Blawan Ijen Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) in East Java, which has entered its first commercial operation phase with 35 MW out of a planned total capacity of 110 MW.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that the Ijen plant will be capable of supplying electricity to around 85,000 households and reducing carbon emissions by up to 7 million tons over its lifetime.

Prabowo Inaugurates Sanur Health Special Economic Zone (SEZ)

President Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bali, positioning it as a world-class healthcare hub. He described the initiative as a strategic breakthrough aimed at achieving health sector self-sufficiency and curbing the massive outflow of foreign exchange caused by millions of Indonesians seeking medical treatment abroad.

State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir added that Sanur SEZ is the result of inter-ministerial collaboration to build a healthcare system that is adaptive to future demographic and financial challenges. Every year, over IDR 150 trillion in foreign exchange is spent on overseas medical treatment by Indonesians, and the Sanur SEZ is expected to serve as a national solution to address this issue.

Pantura Aquaculture Revitalization Begins: Boosting Productivity and Creating 100,000 Jobs in West Java

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has officially launched the first phase of the aquaculture revitalization program in the northern coastal region (Pantura) of West Java, covering 20,413 hectares across four regencies: Bekasi, Karawang, Subang, and Indramayu. Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono stated that the project will create over 100,000 jobs, with at least 40,000 of them prioritized for local communities near the aquaculture sites.

The program aims to dramatically increase aquaculture productivity from 0.6 tons to 144 tons per hectare per year, generating an estimated 1.18 million tons of output worth IDR 30.65 trillion. The primary commodity to be cultivated is saline tilapia, chosen for its fast growth and disease resistance.

Revitalization will begin in 2025, with physical development scheduled for 2026. The project will include cultivation zones, supporting facilities, green areas, and both upstream and downstream fisheries infrastructure.

Eastern Indonesia Becomes New Growth Engine for Fintech Lending

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) reported that outstanding fintech lending reached IDR 80.94 trillion from January to April 2025, marking a year-on-year growth of 29.01%. The highest growth was recorded in Eastern Indonesia, driven by rising industrial activity and improved digital infrastructure in the region.

According to Nailul Huda, Director of Digital Economy at Celios, this shift is due to market saturation in Java and growing negative perceptions of online lending. In contrast, demand for alternative financing is rising outside Java, where access to formal financial services remains limited.
